Donjon And Burg of Vigoleno

Immagine del castello

It’s a perfectly preserved example of medieval fortified burg, situated on the ridge that separates the valleys of Ongina and Stirone streams. The castle history is linked to the name of the Scotti family, who held it until the beginning of the XX century. The structure reveals uncommon Tuscan influences, maybe due to the employment of skilled workers from Lunigiana region. The urban structure is dominated by the quadrangular donjon with its loopholes, corbels and ghibelline merlons. The Church of St. Giorgio, dated back to the XII century second half, is situated next to the eastern part of the walls.
