MASTERPIECES IN THE OPEN AIR: THE GREAT ABBEYS ON THE LAND

FIRST DAY : in the morning guided visit to Carthusian monastery in Pavia, one of the most interesting example of old-gothic and Renaissance architecture in Lombardia, famous for its purity in every single detail, from the large windows to the decorated capitals. Transfer to Piacenza for free lunch in the old town center. Then guided thematic tour of the town, with particular attention to the churches in the old town center streets. At the end accommodation in ***hotel near Madonna delle Rose Shrine, dinner and overnight. SECOND DAY : breakfast in hotel and visit to Madonna delle Rose Shrine, well known destination for the religious tourism from every part of the world. The shrine is know as "del pero" (of the pear tree) because of the pear tree which blossomed simultaneously to the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Mamma Rosa (Mother Rose), who was covered with terrible sores and was healed by miracle. Then transfer to Arda Valley and lunch in a restaurant located in an ancient noble resort, few steps from the Cistercian Abbey of Chiaravalle della Colomba. In the afternoon, visit to the Abbey still inhabited by the Cistercian monks, and which is a obliged stop for the pilgrims going to Rome. Possibility to buy product done by the monks such as officinal plants grown in the monastery. In the end, transfer toward Parma area and stop at the Fontevivo Abbey, where one can admire a Virgin Mary with Jesus painting of the XII century, ascribed to Benedetto Antelami.
